Good day to you all,

For three weeks we had the privilege to host in Bucharest relevant debates for the telecommunication and digitalization sectors.

The Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union has brought together elite specialists in the field, political leaders, ambassadors and high-level representatives of international organizations.

I congratulate all for their remarkable contributions to the technologies of the future – telecommunications, artificial intelligence and, in general, to all the topics approached.

The Bucharest Declaration, signed during PP-22, emphasizes Romania’s interest in contributing at the development of new technologies and highlights the creativity and professionalism of our specialists.

Romania’s obtaining of a new mandate in the Council of the International Telecommunication Union is owed to the experts from ANCOM and the Ministry of Digitalization. Thanks to them, our country will continue to have an important say in the following four years in the setting of the development directions of telecommunications worldwide.

I wish to congratulate Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin for being elected to steer the activity of the International Telecommunication Union in the next four years, starting 2023.

I thank Mr. Houlin Zhao, the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, for his entire activity in this position which he has been holding from 2015, and for the excellent collaboration with Romania.

Digitalization has evolved at a fast pace in the last years at global level. The development of digital technologies has changed people’s lives, from the way they communicate to the way they live and work.

In the near future, digitalization has the capacity to offer solutions to the challenges that humanity is facing, for instance by creating workplaces, promoting education or fighting climatic changes and facilitating the green transition.

The Government of Romania will continue to work with the new leadership of the International Telecommunication Union, with the Secretary General-elect, Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, and with the new Council in view of implementing the digital transformation and the telecommunication development, which are anchors of the economy of the future.

I thank the delegates from around the world and I express my hope that you have enjoyed the Romanian hospitality. We expect you to come back to our country, either as delegates or as tourists.

I thank you!
